Updates
DiskVerdict updates itself via Sparkle — it checks the release feed and offers new versions in-app. You can also re-download the latest notarized DMG from the homepage at any time; installing over the old copy keeps your settings.
02 Requirements & installation
What you need
DiskVerdict needs macOS 14.0 or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel (Universal binary). No account, no admin rights.
Installing
Open the DMG and drag DiskVerdict into Applications — the app is notarized by Apple, so it launches without warnings.
03 Common questions
Is benchmarking safe for my drive?
Yes. DiskVerdict writes and reads a temporary file on the volume you pick, with the OS cache bypassed so it measures the drive rather than RAM. It touches nothing else, and the temporary file is removed when the run finishes.
Why doesn't it ask for admin rights or Full Disk Access?
It doesn't need them. Volume enumeration and benchmarking are permission-free — no elevated rights, no kernel extension, no Full Disk Access prompt. If a volume is missing from the list, check that it's mounted in Finder.
Something else is wrong.
Write to contact@lucesumbrarum.com with the app version (DiskVerdict → About) and the drive type — that's usually enough to reproduce it.
